SPORTS COMMUNITY MOURNS LOSS OF MARTIAL ARTS ATHLETE

June 16, 2011 - It is with sincere regret that we announce the death of Team Canada 2011 member Beth Prouse who was involved in an automobile accident on her way home to Melville, Saskatchewan following the 2011 Pan Am Martial Arts Games last weekend.   Fellow teammate Myles Stewart, the second occupant of the vehicle is currently recovering from critical injuries in Regina hospital.  His condition is listed as stable.

Beth was born in Terrace, BC and later moved to the Melville, Saskatchewan area.  For the past 4 years, she had studied Chinese style martial arts at the Sil Foo Kung Fu school under the instruction of fellow Team Canada member Tim Oehler.   Beth loved to compete and as a Saskatchewan Provincial Champion made the Canadian National Martial Arts Association - Team Canada 2010 bringing home Gold and Silver medals from the 2010 World Martial Arts Games in Las Vegas.   She re-qualified for Team Canada in 2011 and took Silver and Bronze medals at the 2011 Pan American Martial Arts Games last weekend.

The loss of Beth Prouse has been felt as far away as the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.  In a letter from IOC Sport Director and Sport for All Director - Christophe Dubi, the IOC acknowledges that this sad news is shared by the greater sport community as a whole.   Beth's profile can be viewed by Clicking here.

A service for Beth has been scheduled for 3pm this Sunday, June 19 at the Community Hall in Kelvington, SK.  All are welcome to attend.
